Top 10 Best Narrative Adventure Games You Can Play Right Now
1
Reign: Beyond
Available on: iOS + apple arcade
Gender: Adventure
Reigns is known for its first game, where you can swipe through the cards that appear on your screen, making decisions for a kingdom. Now, kingdoms, kings, princes… it’s all kind of old fashioned. Why not spend time managing an intergalactic group instead?
Reigns: Beyond is exactly that, the same concept of swiping cards left and right to make decisions. Only this time you manage resources on a ship and decide how best to lead your party across the galaxy. It’s an iOS-only game, so it’s a bit of a shame that Android users can’t enjoy it.

small misfortune
Editor: Killmonday Games
Available on: iOS + android
Gender: Adventure

Rather, it’s a spooky point-and-click adventure game that has a strong narrative line, about a young girl who’s going to die today. On his last day on Earth, you have to explore a somewhat strange, almost spooky city. The world is strange, Little Misfortune is out of luck and only Mr. Voice can show her the way and guide her to whatever happens next.
Little Misfortune captivated me and kept me watching and waiting to see exactly what happened next.
3
Mirror Tales
Editor: Lilith Games
Available on: iOS + android

Tales of the Mirror is a narrative adventure game that tells the story of a murder (or murderer, depending on how you want to see it). Tales of the Mirror is absolutely brilliant, and it unfolds like a point-and-click visual novel, with a rich narrative that unfolds in real time.
You have a limited time to put together the puzzle pieces that are the clues that lead you to the murderer, and you have to think carefully before doing anything. You have a magic mirror to help you, but other than that, you’re on your own. It’s absolutely brilliant, and if you want to know more, be sure to read our Tales of the Mirror review.

The almost gone
Editor: happy volcano
Available on: iOS + android + To change
Gender: Adventure

The Almost Gone is more of a dark game, following an eerily sacred game about death, loss, and dealing with the grief that comes with it. By looking at empty rooms and eerily peaceful places, you’ll explore areas and learn more about the people who were there. Slowly, slowly, it will unravel the story of what happened to you and why you are there, as well as the people who are still there, even though you cannot see them.
5
safety rope
Developer: 3 minute games
Available on: iOS + android + apple watch
Gender: Adventure

Another sci-fi adventure, Lifeline tries something a little different. A space explorer is stranded on an alien planet, and his only hope of returning home is . . . you. Your phone is the only point of contact you have with this person, and you will have to keep them alive on your own.
It’s basically another adventure game to choose from, but Lifeline uses the phone interface to great effect. There will be lulls in the game as you wait for space explorer Taylor to respond, adding to the realism of the game while making it a great choice for those who prefer to play their mobile games in short periods of time. .
If you want to learn more about what makes this game a mobile classic, be sure to check out Susan Arendt’s feature on why the original safety rope still stands head and shoulders above its many spinoffs. Or you can read our Lifeline review.

A dark room
Developer: Amir Rajan
Available on: iOS + android
Gender: Adventure, RPG

A Dark Room starts out as a simple idle game that tasks you with making a fire and looking for wood. Before long, however, you start exploring the forest around you and the game develops into something quite unexpected.
Entirely text-based, A Dark Room relies solely on words to set the scene, and it’s quite effective. It mixes RPG and survival elements into its design to create something completely unique. We don’t want to spoil anything for you, but if you’re feeling adventurous, you should definitely give this one a try.

Reign
Editor: Digital devolve
Available on: iOS + android
Gender: Card/board game

Reigns immediately caught the gaming world’s attention when it launched in 2016. Borrowing left and right swipe mechanics from the dating app Tinder, you play as a monarch in an unforgiving medieval fantasy world.
A number of decisions are presented to you, by swiping a card left for no and right for yes. Seemingly innocuous decisions can sometimes result in your death, and you’ll learn a lot as you play through the lives of kings over the span of centuries. We have a Reigns review, so be sure to check it out if you’re curious how this game is doing!

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery
Developer: town of jam
Editor: Portkey Games
Available on: iOS + android
Gender: Action, Adventure

Final Frontier: A New Journey takes us into the wondrous fantasy world of Harry Potter and fans of the book (or movie) will swear there’s no narrative adventure game that can come close to their Hogwarts Mystery. To be fair, they’re kinda right. Hogwarts Mystery is extraordinarily well-written, and it has a story that continues throughout the chapter where you’ll be challenged with a different set of hazards or playful tasks that aren’t as repetitive as they seem.
Fans of the series will recognize many well-known characters who will give them various quests and send them on different adventures. If you’re looking for an adventure that will last for weeks and months to come, we can easily recommend this title.
