It’s hard to describe what makes an upcoming adventure game so exciting. Martha is Dead Developers Reveal Some Unplayable Scenes on PS4/PS5, Game Uncut on PC and Xbox

Martha is dead (February 24)

Martha is Dead is a dark, uncomfortable and intriguing story. Set against the backdrop of World War II, this game puts you in the role of a young woman posing as her dead twin. There are so many things that make this game exciting, and in our preview a few months ago, we saw that one of those things is the photography element that lets you play with a simplified darkroom and less smelly.

But the story itself is what captivates us, navigating the moral and emotional tightrope of pretending to be your dead sister, watching your family mourn your death, while World War II rages in the background should be enough to intrigue you, but the game also offers elements of psychological and supernatural horror. Martha is Dead will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X.

Cyberpunk is a setting that games have explored before, with some extremely public success and failure. Stray attempts to recreate a futuristic neon-soaked city from a new and fascinating angle. Rather than playing some level of Matrix cosplayer in leather and latex, you’re instead covered in fur because you’re a kitty cat.

Wccftech Games Awards – Best of 2021 and Most Anticipated of 2022

Stray promises to explore the detailed city and its seedy underbelly filled with decaying technology. Exactly how you get to navigate this world has yet to be fully explained, but even the concept alone is enough to add it to the list. Stray will be released on PC, PS4 and PS5.

Oxenfree 2

Oxenfree was an amazing game that had you exploring a ghost story that touched on everything from heartbreak to time loops and number stations. It looked fantastic, with superb acting to really engage the player in the world.

It was only natural to add its sequel to our list of most anticipated adventure games for 2022. Oxenfree 2 introduces new characters but seems to keep the same vibe, with meta stories, radio ghosts, and warped classic ghost locations. by archaic technology. On the surface, it looks a lot scarier than the first, but hopefully the characters and dialogue will feel just as solid and heartwarming even when the weird and weird start to happen. Oxenfree 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Open roads

Developer Fulbright has more than earned its place among the top independent developers with Gone Home and Tacoma. They return in 2022 with Open Roads, a game that consists of a road trip featuring sixteen-year-old protagonist Tess Devine and her mother, Opal, voiced by none other than Keri Russell (The Americans, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker).

According to the developers, however, we can expect a decent amount of mystery and thriller vibes. At the same time, a “unique and engaging interactive dialogue system pushes the narrative forward, exposing character flaws, secrets, and buried truths.” The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X.

It would have been impossible to write this list of most anticipated adventure games without mentioning Somerville, the highly anticipated debut title from Jumpship Studio. After all, the producer is Dino Patti, the man behind Inside and Limbo. Somerville is much like those games in that it will tell its narrative without any dialogue, relying entirely on environmental storytelling instead.

The setting is quite different, however. Here, a family of three with their pet dog navigate a post-apocalyptic Earth in an effort to find more human survivors while avoiding being killed by alien artifacts. The developers also stated that unlike Inside and Limbo, Somerville will not feature puzzle or platforming elements, nor is it limited to 2D movement.

The game will be released on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X.

There are old stories of how audiences reacted to new storytelling techniques. You can imagine children running away in fear as the Shadow Caster begins to spin. You’ve heard of adults diving for cover when a filmed train appeared to be hurtling towards them. Most of these stories are fake or exaggerated, but playing Mundaun feels like something is popping off the screen.

It looks hand-drawn, but not in a cute way. Looks like the doodles of an uncomfortable nightmare come to life. And it feels like that. Mundaun is an exploration of hostile landscapes and strange old world practices. If you like Folk Horror, you’ll love Mundaun.

Wccftech’s Most Anticipated Adventure Games of 2022 – Darkness & Light

To the east

Eastward is a ruined world adventure. It’s not quite post-apocalyptic, but it doesn’t get any better. There’s a coziness to the setting that the beautiful pixel art perfectly highlights and intensifies: like sitting under a blanket and watching a storm overhead.

The story involves a father/daughter relationship, which isn’t exactly groundbreaking but is well-managed, and the journey through the declining world is so imaginative and thoughtful that you can get carried away in the most cliched areas. There’s a certain way to fight, but the core of the game is more like Studio Ghibli and the movies that exist at the end of things.

Life is Strange: True Colors (9.5)

Life is Strange: True Colors is the next installment in the Life is Strange spin-off games from Deck Nine studio. These are the talented minds behind Before the Storm who explored the life and relationship of Chloe Price and Rachel Amber. In True Colors, however, they had full reign to introduce new characters and settings.

Life is Strange 2 was a bit of a mixed bag for fans. While some enjoyed exploring American culture as a whole, others preferred the more detailed examination that resulted from focusing on a single setting. True Colors does just that, letting you fall in love with the characters, places, and tragedies of small-town Colorado.

You play as Alex, a young woman with the gift/curse of magical empathy. She can sense the emotions of those around her, reading their thoughts to identify what makes them feel that way. But it comes at a cost, and strong emotions can infect it, making situations worse. His adventure revolves around his brother and the town where he settled. It is truly an incredible story and a heartbreaking journey.

The Forgotten City (8.5)

The Forgotten City is likely to become one of the most underrated adventure games of the decade. It’s utterly fantastic, redefines the genre, and contains some of the medium’s best storytelling to date. And it all started as a Skyrim mod.

The adventure of The Forgotten City is wrapped in classic mythology, but that’s only the first layer. As you explore the doomed titular city, you quickly discover ruins beneath the buildings and various stories connected to them. The town is governed by the mysterious Golden Rule which, if broken, dooms everyone, regardless of their involvement in the transgression. Remnants of the civilizations that attempted to survive under this system are all around you, but nonetheless, there is hope and agency in the characters you meet on your journey. There’s so much to explain about this game, but it’s worth discovering most of it for yourself.

There have been many simulation games that give you insight into the professions of train drivers, truck drivers, bus drivers, pilots and so many other jobs. Those who like these games are satisfied with the technical accuracy and complexity. Lake is not that game.

In Lake, you play as a temporary postman, covering a single route for two weeks. The scenery is beautiful but unremarkable, which makes it all the more fascinating to travel the same roads. There is also a story, a slice-of-life drama that unfolds among the people of the small town where you deliver. You won’t see any major twists or alien landscapes, but you’ll have the chance to escape.

Marten (9)

If you’re looking for the aforementioned alien landscapes, look no further than Sable. Inspired by the sci-fi landscapes of Star Wars and Dune, this quiet adventure has you cycling through the desert landscape in search of a mask that matches your personality.

There is no grand planet rescue mission or princess to rescue from a castle. You are simply seeking where you belong, and in doing so you must discover the world in which you dwell. It’s a fantastic trip that lasts the time it takes you to find accommodation.

Route 96

Part narrative adventure, part roguelike exploration, Road 96 is an unusual, challenging, and beautiful journey along a road to the border of a fictional country. You play as a series of teenagers each seeking their own escape from an inspiring authoritarian government. Each teenager starts at the wrong end of route 96 and you have to drive them down the highway.

Each breakpoint gives you a glimpse of the world they are trying to escape from. You will also be able to meet strangers representing the changing ideologies and why the teenagers chose to flee. You have surprising power throughout the story, though you don’t really know how your choices changed things until you reach the end.

One of the more experimental adventure games on the list, Road 96 offers something interesting and different for those yearning to explore.

There are many adventure game books on the play store, ranging from modern love stories to zombie-filled dice battles to the death. But which are the best?

That’s the question we’re trying to answer with this list. We probably didn’t answer it correctly, but we did our best. If you have your own suggestions for games that should have been included, let us know in the comments.

You can click on the game names below to rush and download them from the play store.

Tin Man Games is one of the developers who sparked the renaissance of the digital playbook. This app brings together a whole bunch of different digitized versions of the classic Fighting Fantasy games. It’s free with IAP, and you’ll get a playbook for downloading it.

Choice of Games has plenty of great gamebooks to choose from, and frankly, they’re all worth checking out. This one takes place in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, so you can expect vampiric encounters, role-playing, and more.

Another from Tin Man Games. This is an adaptation of Ryan North’s version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It’s a less dark affair than the play, however, and it’ll make you laugh more than once.

Inkle took the shape of the playbook and then built upon it, creating something magical along the way. It’s a tale of Around the World in 80 Days from the perspective of Fogg’s valet Passepartout, and set in an alternate steampunk reality.

Along with its adaptations, Tin Man Games is also doing a great job on its own original titles. This app collects the first three Gamebook Adventures books. There are assassins, necromancers, and more dice rolls than you can roll.

Cubus Games has done a great job at the grittier end of the gamebook spectrum. Its sci-fi adventures are worth a look, but this mix of horror, action and time-sensitive Napoleonic-era objectives is the crème de la crème.

The second entry on this list from Inkle. This one sees you trying to get away with murder on a cruise ship. It has some really clever ideas, and although it’s short, you’ll be replaying it multiple times to find the different endings.

Reigns games bring interesting and quick changes to the playbook model, as well as nagging in a deep vein of replayability. You try to lead your country to prosperity, while trying not to die along the way. When you perish, it’s time to lead the next generation.

Florence may not be the longest play in the world, but it is a deeply touching exploration of modern love and loss. It looks more like an interactive comic than an actual CYOA game, but still worth checking out.

Another example of everything Inkle can do with the gamebook framework. This one is a little more traditional than the other Inkle games on the list, with swords, magic, and monsters, but it’s still absolutely brilliant.

80 days

Price: $5.99

80 Days is one of the best adventure games for Android. You play as Phileas Fogg’s assistant, Passepartout, and you attempt to circumnavigate the globe in just 80 days. You can take airships, submarines, trains and even mechanical camels. Players must manage Phileas’ vitals when traveling the world or risk losing the game. The game plays at a fast pace and you literally venture around the world. Plus, you also race against other players to see who gets there first. It’s a one-of-a-kind type of game and well worth the price. It’s also free through Google Play Pass if you have it.

Crashland is already one of the best adventure games of 2016. You play as a space trucker named Flux. The game begins with your crash on an alien planet. Your job is to collect your cargo, build yourself a base, fight the bad guys and save the world. It has a lot of gameplay elements including crafting, combat, RPG-style character leveling, and you can even tame creatures to fight alongside you. Evoland 2 is easily one of the best adventure games in recent memory. It transcends genres by including a whole bunch of them. This includes 2D RPG, 3D fighter, collectible card, hack-and-slash and many more. The game basically progresses through the different eras of the game and each new mechanic also brings a new graphical style. Its unique gameplay keeps you guessing and it’s an overall enjoyable experience. However, we recommend playing with a physical controller for best results. The game is also perpetually on sale, so you can probably pick it up for less than its asking price of $7.99.

Genshin Impact

Price: free to play

Genshin Impact is one of the newer adventure games on the list. It’s kind of like Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Players have a large open world to explore with a bunch of quests and missions to do. Players even get a glider to cover greater distances. There’s also a gacha RPG element to this one, but you get most of the characters through quests rather than random summons, which adds a bit of flavor to the game. controls are excellent and you will venture into this one for a long time.

Great mountain adventure

Price: Free / $5.49

Grand Mountain Adventure is one of the newer adventure games on the list. This is a skiing game with racing and exploration elements. Players ride the elevator to different tracks. You then ski down the slopes and try to beat the time limit. However, you can also just ski and see the sights. There are also hidden areas, five mountains (in the premium version), online leaderboards, and you can even do tricks when hitting the great outdoors. The game’s controls and perspective are a little weird at first, but not too difficult. The graphics are also beautiful and the gameplay is smooth. You get the first mountain for free and you can purchase the premium version to unlock the rest.

Guardian Tales

Price: free to play

Guardian Tales is a retro-styled adventure game with hack-and-slash game mechanics and decent controls. Players travel through a world while solving puzzles and uncovering the mysteries of the game. There are boss fights, a decent story, and a few fun little things you can do. It’s reminiscent of an older Zelda game, but with some added town-building mechanics. There are also social mechanics like guilds so you can chat with friends as well. The game relies on some gacha mechanics though, and that can be a bit irritating for free-to-play players.

Monument Valley 1 and 2

Price: $3.99 to $4.99 each + $1.99 for DLC

Monument Valley 1 and 2 are two of the most popular puzzle-adventure games available. You move the levels because each level is the puzzle. Players are treated to optical illusions, a vague but fun story, and a cohesive experience across two games. The first game includes the standard story with a DLC ($1.99). The second game is currently $4.99. The only complaint we have is the length of the game. These games are a bit short. They’re still great games, but those who don’t like short games may get frustrated with these. They are also free through Google Play Pass.

Price: Free / $4.49

Oddmar is a charming adventure platformer from the same developers at Leo’s Fortune. You play as a struggling Viking who wants to restore his honor. You venture through the game world to do just that. The game has smooth gameplay, excellent controls, and excellent level design. Plus, it hits all the extras with hardware controller support, Google Play Games cloud saves, and it works offline once you download all the data. The game is a bit short with only 24 levels, but each level has a 3-star rating system to encourage replayability. You get a bit of the game for free before you have to unlock the rest with a single in-app purchase of $4.49

OPUS series

Price: Free / Varies

The Opus games are a series of three adventure games that tell a dark but touching story. The first is Opus: The Day We Found Earth where you play as a robot trying to save humanity by returning to Earth. Next is Rocket of Whispers: Prologue which leads into Opus: Rocket of Whispers. The final game tells the story of two people who survived a plague and want to build a rocket to perform a space burial. The whole series is really good and the execution is among the best we’ve seen. The games can be a bit pricey, but you can start the games for free as a kind of demo before purchasing the full title.

Pokemon Go

Price: free to play

Pokemon Go is one of the most ambitious adventure games. In fact, you go out into the real world and catch Pokémon, battle in Gyms, loot Poke Stops, and more. The element of adventure is a bit more literal in this game than others. This requires you to go on your own and play the game in these places. Players roam the open world and catch Pokémon, battle in Gyms, compete against each other, trade Pokémon, collect various items, and do all sorts of other things. The genre is also growing, and you can play similar games with Minecraft: Earth, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and Jurassic World Alive.

The bedroom: old sins

Price: $4.99

Most The Room games are not adventure games. The same cannot be said for the latest game in the series. The Room: Old Sins incorporates elements of exploration along with its signature puzzle structure. This gives it an extra dimension that previous games don’t have. For the uninitiated, The Room is a series of games with gorgeous graphics, intricate puzzles, and mysterious themes. The latest, One Sins, also supports Google Play Games achievements, cloud save, and more. It will definitely be one of the best puzzle and adventure games of 2018.

Rusty Lake Series (Cube Escape)

Price: Free / Varies

Cube Escape is a series of mystery adventure games where you have to solve puzzles to find out what’s really going on. It is also known as “The Story of Rusty Lake” and it is also playable online as a web game. The mechanics are quite simple and each game has you solve a variety of puzzles in order to progress through the story. It’s technically they’re escape games, which means most of the time you’ll be solving puzzles. Still, it’s a great series of games. We’re including it in this list because the Cube Escape series is almost completely free, with no in-app purchases, making it one of the best at this price point. There are also premium games by the developers which are really good.

Square Enix can write one hell of a narrative and its storytelling is among the best in any game. As such, most of their mobile games are great adventure games. Some examples include Adventures of Mana, Secret of Mana, Life is Strange, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, various Dragon Quest games, The World Ends With You, Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition, and many more. The aforementioned games span multiple genres, including RPG, puzzle, slice-of-life, and hack-and-slash. For some reason, half of Square Enix’s library is under a different developer name than everything else. We have the one tied to all Final Fantasy games and mobile ports of old RPGs. You may need to search for Tomb Raider and Life is Strange content on Google Play. Either way, Square Enix’s catalog doesn’t really have any short games, so be prepared to strap in and play for a while.

Price: $4.99

WitchSpring is an adventure game that should probably be more popular than it is. You play as a witch who is also the ruler of an entire continent. Players explore the world, meet various characters, and do various things. It’s a surprisingly charming RPG from a much bigger developer in Korea than in other parts of the world. There are actually four games in the series. The first two tell the same story but from different angles while the third and fourth games are standalone participants that you can play without having to play the others. The games range from $1.99 to $4.99 each and they are all very good.

These days, the “gamer” tag is applied to almost everyone who plays games, regardless of how often they do so and what platform they use. This platform can be anything from a PC, Mac, console, smartphone, tablet, or anything that has a built-in screen. Playing games is probably one of the main entertainment activities for many people who are self-isolating due to the coronavirus pandemic.

If you’re looking for some casual fun between gaming sessions, we’ve got a dozen titles we think are worth spending some time with. In fact, some of these mobile games could replace your daily dose of PC or console gaming.

We’ve curated some of the best story and adventure games released on Android or iOS in the past couple of years. We wanted to include as many great games as possible and there are several that launched a year or two ago. Without further ado, let’s check out some great games.

Price: $4.99

GRIS is one of those games you’ll have no trouble understanding because it doesn’t use text to tell its story. While GRIS is definitely a story-based game, it sends players on an emotional journey using simple control reminders in the form of universal icons. Light puzzles and platforming sequences aside, GRIS is a beautiful game, with hand-painted visuals and an incredible story of grief and loss experienced through the eyes of a young woman. GRIS is a very nice looking game that has already been praised by critics and gamers alike, so it was probably one of the easier picks in our curated selection of titles.

Without beef

Price: $4.99

Oxenfree, our next pick, is aimed at Stranger Things fans without actually being a Stranger Things game. Developed by the good folks at Night School, Oxenfree is a supernatural mystery graphic adventure game where players step into the shoes of a teenage girl who visits a local island with a group of friends. Oxenfree is a mix of teen drama and supernatural thriller that has a similar 80s vibe that made Stranger Things famous. It’s a must-have game for those who love supernatural mystery, synth tunes, and comic book-like visuals.

The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s Creature

Price: $3.99

The next game we are going to talk about is weird and not just because of its name, but mostly because of the gameplay. The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s Creature is a game co-produced by ARTE, a well-known European cultural TV and digital channel. It’s a different take on the Frankenstein mythos, one that involves you playing the role of the creature, a wanderer with no memory or past, who has no concept of right and wrong. Depending on the creature’s emotions throughout the game, the landscape changes to breathtaking or dark and gloomy landscapes. The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s is all about the visuals and unique atmosphere, but the game also has some stunning tunes.

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers

Price: Free

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is a remake of the classic point-and-click adventure game of the same name released in 1993. Playing Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is like being the protagonist of a crime novel written by Agatha Christie, but this time you’ll be solving murders using so-called “dumb cursors”. This means that you will need to select the correct cursor for a specific interaction with an object on the screen. Yes, it’s a bit more complicated than the contextual cursor in traditional adventure games, which change depending on what the cursor is hovering over, but it’s one of the traits that makes Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers rather unique.

Forgotten Anne

Price: Free

Forgotton Anne is one of the few games on the list with a truly charming story (yes, sorry about that). The game takes place in a fictional world where lost objects come to life. All of these objects hope that their owners will remember where they lost them and that they will eventually return to the real world. Anne, the game’s protagonist, is one of the Guardians of the Forgotten Lands, who must crush a rebellion that could prevent her from returning to the real world. Aesthetically, Forgotton Anne features a lively hand-drawn style, but the real ‘piece de resistance’ is the orchestral score performed by the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra.

Samorost 3

Price: $1.99

Amanita Design is a name that needs no introduction among hardcore gamers. The studio has an impressive portfolio that includes titles like Machinarium, Botanicula, Pilgrims, and Samorost. While not the most recent games released by Amanita Design, Samorost 3 is one of the studio’s best looking titles. High definition graphics make Samorost 3 look great on small and large screens. Unlike traditional point-and-click adventure games, Samorost 3 does not feature understandable dialogue, and the sound recording was created by people making strange noises into microphones. If those aren’t good reasons to play Samorost 3, then maybe the fact that the game has won a handful of major awards might convince some of you to give it a try.

Price: $4.99

LIMBO is the gamer’s equivalent of film noir. The developers used black and white tones to construct the dark, shadowy landscapes and creatures that roam the world of LIMBO. The excellent use of lighting and film grain effects will probably give you weird feelings, but so does Hitchcock’s Psycho and it’s still considered one of the best classic horror films. In LIMBO, you’ll control a boy through haunting environments using simple controls like running left or right, jumping, climbing, and pushing or pulling. Although LIMBO features strong game mechanics, it is an example of games as an art form. Yes, the game is a little light on the story, but if you have a knack for the horror genre, LIMBO is the perfect way to quench that thirst.

Never alone

Price: $4.99

Never Alone is an adventure game that lets you switch between the two main characters: a girl and a fox. You’ll be forced to switch between the two companions to solve puzzles or reach certain areas of the game. Never Alone tells a traditional Alaska Native story that has been shared from generation to generation. The game features impressive yet challenging arctic environments, which players must brave to reach at the end of their journey. Besides the main story, each time players complete a challenge, they will be rewarded with cultural information, short stories told by members of the Alaska Native community, and storytellers. If you’re not too keen on the platforming and puzzle game elements, you’ll surely love the story that Never Alone sets out to tell.

The Walking Dead

Price: Free (only the first episode)

Then The Walking Dead is a game everyone probably knows from the hit TV series. Unlike traditional adventure games, The Walking Dead replaces puzzles with character development and storytelling. Although there are no puzzles to solve in the game, there are surely a lot of QTEs (Quick Events) to perform. What makes this game unique for its genre is that every choice you make throughout the game influences the story and the journey to the next episode. The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series and consists of five episodes.

The wolf among us

Price: Free (only the first episode)

A similar game in terms of gameplay, The Wolf Among Us tells the story of Bigby Wolf, a detective who investigates the murder of a woman. Fans know it’s a comic book prequel, but here’s a quick look at the premise if you’ve never heard of the game. The Wolf Among Us is set in a fictional colonial America where the inhabitants of the magical lands fled from a mysterious tyrant. Since they are not human, they must use an enchantment called glamor to hide their appearance. And yes, you’ll most likely recognize many folktale characters like Little Red Riding Hood, The Lumberjack, The Little Mermaid, Bloody Mary, and the protagonist, The Big Bad Wolf.

life is strange

Price: Free (only the first episode)

Life Is Strange is another story-driven, episodic graphic adventure that follows the adventures of a young college student who discovers she can turn back time. Unfortunately, every time she changes something in the past, she triggers the butterfly effect, which means that every little change in the initial conditions would lead to different results later. If the game’s premise piqued your interest, you’ll be glad to know that the story is even better.

The Silent Age

Price: $4.99

The Silent Age is probably the oldest game on the list, so chances are many have already heard of it. It’s a point-and-click adventure game set in a dystopian future where humanity has disappeared. You play as a janitor trying to save humanity using time travel. The janitor/time travel combo is by far the least weird thing about The Silent Age. We’ll just throw out a few other concepts that appear in the game, so you have an idea of what to expect: communism, spies, portable time machines, cryochambers, and lots of time travel.
